The fourth sculpture of the ARTWALK in Lech is based on the personal experience of commissioner Ingo Strolz. An adventurous car rally posing numerous challenges to the hotelier led to intense questions about goals in life. Gabriele Brunner’s realisation of the corresponding idea turned out to be a technical challenge as the artwork is attached to the ground at only one spot while floating freely. In addition, the fact that there is lots of snow on the Arlberg in winter had to be considered.
The small ribbons and rods of the artwork– their airiness symbolising the lines on a globe – make the steel seem unusually light. At the same time, the coordinates of the home of Ingo Strolz are a gift for the much-travelled man.
What were Ingo Strolz’s goals when he faced the challenges of the toughest classic car race in the world? Travelling on two continents and through different cultures inevitably raises the question about the next goal, yet unavoidably touches its meta-level. Ingo Strolz arrived in Paris after 35 days and 13,694 Paris. Had he reached his true destination?
